Purpose of the Field Guide Website

At the very beginning of His earthly ministry, Jesus applied the following passage from Isaiah to Himself:

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to
proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and
recovery of sight for the blind,
to
release the oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

Luke 4:18-19 NIV

Jesus, through His disciples and through the written Word in the Bible, is still preaching the good news to the poor, still proclaiming freedom for those in bondage to sin, still giving sight to the spiritually blinded, still releasing those spiritually oppressed. It is obvious that people who have never known Him need this freedom, sight, and release. But, as in every generation since the first century, there are in the world today those doctrines, teachers and ministries which would bring children of God back into spiritual bondage, pull a spiritual shade of darkness and confusion over their sight, and oppress them—all allegedly in the name of God.

Some of these teachers and ministries are totally sincere in their attempts to do all this. They are so blinded themselves that they do not understand what they are doing. Others are deliberately deceptive, using the name of God to accomplish their own selfish goals. But for the one deceived, it doesn’t really make any difference if the deceiver is sincere or insincere. The end result will still be bondage, darkness, confusion and oppression.

The purpose of this site is to shine the Light of God's Word, the light of common sense, and the light of open investigation of the facts on certain doctrines, ministries, and teachers. Those who come here to see these things in the light can thus make their own evaluation of whether these doctrines, ministries, and teachers should be accepted as being from the Lord.

Everyone who does evil hates the light,
and will not come into the light
for fear that his deeds will be exposed.
But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light,
so that it may be seen plainly that
what he has done has been done through God."

John 3:20-21 NIV

Those works that have been "done through God" can endure the light.

But aren’t there enough websites similar to this on the Internet?
